Mrs. Cosner

Hello My Name Is...

‚ÄčCandace Cosner

I am Candace Cosner and I am super excited to be working with your child this year! I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself. I have been a teacher since the Fall of 1997 when I stepped into my first elementary school classroom.  I spent 5 years teaching 3rd grade in North Carolina before coming home to be a full-time mom for my own children.  During this time off from full-time teaching, my husband and I moved to the Birmingham area with our children.  We have been here ever since and are extraordinarily proud to live in the Deep South!

When I decided that I was ready to return to teaching, I took a position as a teaching assistant in a preschool classroom for students having special needs.  It was through that experience that I realized my heart and soul belonged to children who have special needs.  I determined that having found my place in the world of education, it was time to further my own learning. At that point, I entered graduate school and graduated with my Master’s Degree in Special Education from Samford University.  Since that time, I have taught for Jefferson County as a Special Education Teacher.

On a personal note, my husband and I have been married for almost 20 years. We have been blessed with four children - two in high school, one in middle school, and one in elementary school. Our three oldest children are musicians and love playing in the Pinson Valley Bands. Although our youngest child is too young for band right now, she regularly tells us that she will eventually be a part of the half time show as a dance line member. The Cosner Family is rounded out by three dogs: Lola Bell, Charlie, and Frodo. When I'm not being a wife, mom, or teacher, I enjoy reading, knitting, and building rustic furniture from old barn wood. Thanks for the pleasure of teaching your child this year. 207-2018 is going to be amazing!
